OpenAI and Google Cloud announced on October 21, 2026 that OpenAI’s frontier models and its Codex coding agent are coming to Google Cloud’s Model Garden, the catalog of AI models on Google’s enterprise AI platform.

Which models

According to Google Cloud, three OpenAI models are rolling out now in private preview to select enterprise customers:

  • GPT-6 Astra, for demanding work across coding, computer use, professional tasks and scientific research
  • GPT-6.1 Sol, which Google describes as near-Astra intelligence at lower cost
  • GPT-6 Luna, a fast, cost-efficient model for everyday work at scale

OpenAI says general availability is planned in the coming weeks. Google says customers can already connect their local Codex CLI and Desktop workflows to its Gemini platform for inference.

How companies pay

Customers buy the models through Google Cloud Marketplace, so usage shows up on a single Google Cloud bill. Companies with Google Cloud spending commitments can draw those commitments down on OpenAI models. OpenAI and Google also say the models will come to Google Antigravity and Google’s Gemini business tools soon.

The bigger picture

Google says it is now the only hyperscale cloud provider offering all three leading closed-source large language models, alongside more than 200 other models. Google also says customer prompts and outputs stay within the customer’s data perimeter and are never used to train foundation models.

The deal links two companies that compete head to head in AI models and AI products. Even so, OpenAI says Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner.
