NVIDIA Commits $250 Million in Compute to UK AI Agent Safety Research
NVIDIA is donating $250 million worth of compute over five years to UK research on safe and secure AI agents, with partners and terms still to be agreed.

NVIDIA has announced a five-year compute donation valued at $250 million to strengthen the United Kingdom’s research on agentic AI safety and security.
What NVIDIA is giving
According to NVIDIA’s press release dated October 13, 2026, the commitment provides $50 million in compute access every year for five years, dedicated to agentic safety and security research.
- Most of it will support the wider UK AI safety and security research community.
- A proportion will support work with the British Open-Ended Learning and Discovery Lab (BOLD), led by the University of Oxford; the Science of Fundamental AI Research Lab (SOFAIR), led by UCL; and Imperial College London.
- BOLD works on approaches that help AI systems learn, adapt and operate alongside people. SOFAIR explores open source AI architectures and more accessible ways to build and deploy AI. Imperial’s work includes safety engineering and robotics.
How it will be delivered
NVIDIA says it will fund the compute through UK-based NVIDIA Cloud Partners, with the infrastructure hosted in the UK. Provider selection, technical architecture and commercial terms are still to be agreed.
The research programs will focus on secure agents, open-model security and real-world threat mitigations, including secure sandboxes, reproducible research and safety assessment benchmarks. Some of that work will use NVIDIA’s OpenShell runtime software and its Sentry reference design. The commitment builds on NVIDIA’s existing work with UK researchers, including the University of Bristol’s Isambard-AI supercomputer.
What they said
“AI capability and safety must advance together,” said NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang. UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayan called the commitment “a vote of confidence in our world-leading strength and expertise in AI research,” and said safe and secure AI will be central to the UK’s G20 presidency.
Why it matters
AI agents that take actions on their own raise new security questions, and testing safeguards takes serious compute. The pledge comes days after NVIDIA announced a separate $1 billion, five-year commitment to US science on October 8.
