On October 28, 2026, Alphabet reported its third-quarter results, and CEO Sundar Pichai said the Gemini app has reached one billion users, making it the fastest-growing product in Google’s history.

Google described the figure as “users” and did not say whether it means monthly active users.

AI usage keeps climbing

According to Alphabet, Google’s first-party model APIs now process nearly 32 billion tokens per minute. That’s more than four times what they handled a year ago, and Pichai said on the earnings call it’s 40% more than last quarter.

Pichai also pointed to the new Gemini 4 models, Argon and the just-announced Carbon, as Google’s push to lead at the frontier.

The money is following

The AI demand is showing up in the numbers:

  • Google Cloud revenue rose 103% to $30.7 billion, up from $15.2 billion a year earlier, driven by AI infrastructure, AI solutions and TPU system sales
  • Alphabet revenue grew 25% to $127.6 billion, its 13th straight quarter of double-digit growth
  • Google Search & other revenue grew 12%, with query growth at its highest in five years

Google Cloud’s operating income also jumped to $11.1 billion from $3.6 billion a year earlier. Across Alphabet, operating income rose 30%, with an operating margin of 31.8%.

Pichai said Alphabet is now on a half-trillion-dollar annual revenue run rate.

What’s next

Google says it plans to bring agentic features, where Gemini takes actions like booking reservations and filling in forms, to Search and to the Gemini app’s billion users, and later to Chrome, Android and Workspace.
