Claude Max 20x Is Now Ultra, and Verified Accounts Lose the 5-Hour Limit
Anthropic renamed its Claude Max plans to Max and Ultra at the same prices, and verified Ultra accounts no longer have a five-hour usage limit. The weekly limit stays.
Watch Gobi's Short
Anthropic renamed its two top Claude consumer plans on October 30 and, at the same time, removed the five-hour usage limit for verified accounts on the most expensive one.
The new names
- Max 5x is now simply Max, still $100 per month.
- Max 20x is now Ultra, still $200 per month.
According to Anthropic’s Help Center, existing Max 20x subscribers move to Ultra automatically, with no price change. Anthropic’s announcement on X said subscribers don’t need to do anything.
No more five-hour wall, for verified accounts
Most Claude plans use a rolling session limit: the window starts with your first message and resets in full five hours later. Verified Ultra accounts no longer have that limit.
Verification is automatic. Anthropic says it verifies Ultra accounts “using factors like your account and payment history” to prevent fraud and abuse. Until an account is verified, a temporary limit applies, and verifying a phone number at checkout doesn’t remove it. To check, open Settings > Usage: if there’s no Current session bar, the account is verified.
Still not unlimited
Ultra keeps a weekly limit, set at 10 times the Pro plan’s usage every week, which applies across all models. There’s also a separate weekly limit for Fable, which Anthropic describes as its top model. Anthropic adds that it may limit usage in other ways to manage capacity.
The Max plan keeps both kinds of limits: 5 times Pro usage every five hours and every week.
On its pricing page, Anthropic also lists monthly API credits for the Claude Platform with both plans: $100 a month on Max and $200 a month on Ultra.
